The irony of the name

 

Uniquely unique

 It is a mildly dystopian future. All sensible usernames will soon be exhausted, and the people will get into fights for this. Some unsung programmer has the smart idea of using UUID for generating usernames. The technology industry comes together, and agree, and people can use one id for all logins. Software is updated everywhere. 

A new generation of programmers is being groomed in universities. They learn how things work, but not the history and come to believe, UUID means "Unique User ID". History is lost in misconception and urban legends, except for the curious, who stumbles upon the Wikipedia page, and has the bulb of enlightenment light up over his/her head.
